What WHIG is

WHIG (“What Have I Got”) is an inventory tool for your belongings, wherever they are: a home, a business, a garage or a storage unit. It turns a narrated walkthrough recorded on your iPhone into a structured inventory with estimated replacement values, photos taken from your own video, and documents you keep.

WHIG does the following:

  • Records and structures what you tell us during your walkthrough
  • Generates an Evidence Package of documents you keep
  • Identifies gaps in your documentation

To make your inventory, WHIG sends a text transcript of what you say during a walkthrough to Claude AI by Anthropic, as described in the Privacy Policy. Your video and audio stay on your phone. This is how the service works, not an optional setting: the app asks you to allow it before your first walkthrough is read. If you do not allow it, walkthroughs are not read, and you can still add items yourself.

What WHIG is not

WHIG is not an insurance product and does not constitute insurance guidance. WHIG does not:

  • Verify ownership of any item
  • Authenticate items or confirm their provenance
  • Guarantee any particular outcome from sharing your record
  • Recommend a sum insured or comment on coverage adequacy
  • Replace professional appraisal for specialist items (jewellery, art, antiques, instruments, wine)

You should discuss your inventory and coverage with a qualified professional.

Estimates and accuracy

Values produced by WHIG are estimates informed by researched pricing guides and the information you record. They may not reflect the actual replacement cost of your items. Values you enter yourself are kept separate from WHIG estimates.

WHIG estimates are labelled “Estimated. Not a professional valuation.”

Specialist items (fine jewellery, original art, antiques, musical instruments, wine and spirits collections) may carry an indicative estimate, but need an independent professional valuation. WHIG flags where a professional valuation could strengthen your record.

The Evidence Package

Recording, reading and your inventory are free. The WHIG Evidence Package is a one-time in-app purchase, with no subscription, charged at the price shown in the App Store for your region. It unlocks the Evidence Package for every space on your account, including spaces you add later and updated documents. Each recording can run up to 10 minutes. The Evidence Package includes:

  • Evidence record PDF: recorded items and available photos, estimates, categories and evidence status, organised by space
  • Protection priorities: up to 15 items ranked by value at risk, with specific, costed actions to strengthen your record
  • Certificate of integrity: verification status for original recorded walkthroughs, including pending timestamps, or signatures for records signed by earlier versions of WHIG. Later edits are not covered. Entries added entirely by hand have no walkthrough to certify
  • Web inventory (HTML): a read-only file that opens in a browser, with photos, search, filters and printing. It works offline after extracting the full package
  • CSV spreadsheet and evidence index: inventory rows and references to supporting files
  • Photos and restore data: included in the full package for restoring your inventory in WHIG
  • JSON structured data export: full inventory data in a portable, machine-readable format

You can open, save or share Evidence Package documents using your phone’s sharing options.

Purchases are made through the App Store. Refund requests are handled by Apple under its terms. This does not limit your rights under consumer law. If you reinstall WHIG or move to a new iPhone with the same Apple ID, use Restore purchases. Importing a saved Evidence Package restores your inventory, not your purchase.

Evidence integrity

Evidence tiers

Items in your record are classified by strength of evidence:

  • Tier 1 (Strongest): A video frame and a receipt for the whole entry.
  • Tier 2 (Strong): A video frame without a receipt.
  • Tier 3 (Supported): No video frame is available.

Certificate of integrity

WHIG requests an independent timestamp for each walkthrough’s original record: its fingerprint is submitted through public OpenTimestamps calendars for confirmation in the Bitcoin blockchain. Once certified, the proof can show the original record existed by that block’s time. A timestamp may be pending or unavailable, and the Certificate of integrity reports its status. Proofs can be checked at whig.app/verify when supported. Recordings signed by earlier versions of WHIG show their signatures instead. Later edits and supplementary evidence stay separate. The certificate does not show when you filmed, ownership or the accuracy of estimates, and it does not guarantee insurer acceptance or an insurance claim outcome.

Your data

You own your data. Your walkthrough video, audio and item photos are captured and kept on your iPhone, and transcription happens on the phone. The transcript, country, recording length and any space name are sent to WHIG’s reading service, which uses Anthropic’s Claude to build your inventory and returns the result to your phone without storing it. Your video never leaves your phone. After reading, WHIG attempts to save it to Photos; if saving fails, the clips remain on your phone. For independent timestamps, only a fingerprint of each record is sent, never its contents.

Your inventory is encrypted on your device. A saved Evidence Package, including the copy of your inventory that restores WHIG on a new phone, can contain readable information and photos.

Self-declared information

All information in your record is self-declared by you. WHIG does not verify ownership or authenticate items. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provided. Any party you share your record with may require additional documentation beyond what WHIG produces.

Limitation of liability

WHIG is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that estimates reflect actual replacement cost, that the service will be uninterrupted, or that any third party will accept WHIG documentation for any particular purpose.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, WHIG’s liability for any claim arising from use of the service is limited to the amount you paid for the Evidence Package giving rise to the claim.

On-device features depend on supported iPhone capabilities and available device resources. Reading your walkthrough and other online functions depend on third-party services. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.

Sharing with third parties

You can share your PDF and JSON documents through your phone’s sharing options, using the channel you choose. Recipients receive a copy of the file. WHIG cannot revoke or expire copies you have sent.

Your working copy may include changes made after the original recording. Where a package includes a Certificate of integrity, it covers the original walkthrough only. Later edits and supplementary evidence remain separate.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification. Continued use of WHIG after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
